LOKRIS. Lokris Opuntii. Circa 340s BC. Stater (Silver, 25 mm, 11.96 g, 9 h). Head of Demeter to right, wearing wreath of wheat leaves, elaborate peandant earring and a pearl necklace. Rev. OΠONTIΩN Ajax advancing to right, nude but for his helmet, holding short sword in his right hand and shield ornamented with a griffin on the inside in his left; between his legs, diagonal spear. BCD 457.2 (same dies). Humphris & Delbridge Group 21, 157c (O26/R66, this coin). A beautifully toned coin struck on very good metal. Very fine.
